It’s hard to believe that it’s been only two short years since we launched NGOsource in March 2013. Milestones like our two-year anniversary are a great time for reflection. I thought I would take this opportunity to offer a few thoughts on our progress so far, and our vision for the future.
We’re excited that 85 grantmaker members are now using NGOsource for their equivalency determinations (EDs). Our grantmaker members have requested more than 650 EDs so far, for NGOs in 83 different countries. We are growing rapidly, exceeding an average of 50 ED requests per month in 2015. We’ve conducted EDs in five languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese) working with nine partner organizations around the globe.
NGOsource was created to serve as an ED repository, so our grantmaker members can benefit from the due diligence done by others. As our repository grows, grantmakers have a greater chance of finding that the ED they want to request has already been certified for another member. When that happens, grantmakers can receive ED certificates immediately for only $250.
We think the best metric for how we’re fulfilling our promise to the sector is how many of these $250 EDs we are able to deliver. We know that we save grantmakers more than $1,200 each time we deliver a $250 ED, and we save NGOs at least two days of administrative time. In the first three months of 2015, when grantmakers requested a new ED from NGOsource, 26% of the time they found the organization already certified in our repository.
We expect that percentage to increase rapidly in the coming months. Based on our current rate of growth, we will have more than 1,000 NGOs in our ED repository by the end of 2015, and more than 2,000 by the end of 2016. Our goal is to scale our repository so that when grantmakers request EDs, they find, more often than not, that the organization is already in our repository.
We appreciate the many ways that each of you has contributed to achieving this goal: by supporting NGOsource as advisors through its design and launch, and by entrusting our team with your equivalency determinations over the last two years. Our team of legal experts, client services specialists, and technology professionals are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve you.
As always, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have feedback or suggestions regarding how we can serve you better.
