We recently celebrated the first anniversary of NGOsource’s launch. Thanks to your support, we’ve had a very successful first year. I thought I’d give you a quick picture of what we’ve accomplished in Year 1.
We’re honored to have 50 grantmaker members using NGOsource for their equivalency determinations (EDs). Of the biggest 15 international grantmakers, 8 have signed on so far, including Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and The Rockefeller Foundation. Leading donor advised funds have also joined as members, including Schwab Charitable and National Philanthropic Trust, as well as corporate grantmakers, community foundations, and family foundations.
These 50 grantmakers have requested nearly 250 EDs so far, for NGOs in 60 different countries. We’ve conducted EDs in four languages (English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese), working with eight partner organizations around the globe. And this coming year, with support from Ford Foundation, we’ll bring on Portuguese as a fifth language working with TechSoup Brasil as our partner.
As our ED repository grows, all grantmaker members have a greater chance of benefiting from due diligence done by others—and receiving ED certificates immediately for only $250. With a year of work under our belts, we are offering more and more of these $250 EDs each month, bringing down the cost and complexity of doing international grantmaking.
We’ve done surveys of the first 30 grantmakers to do EDs with NGOsource, as well as the first 100 NGOs who went through this process. We were thrilled to learn that 100% of respondents said they would recommend NGOsource to grantmakers.
I’m proud to be part of the team we’ve assembled at NGOsource to support our member grantmakers and their grantees around the world. The strength of our legal experts, client services specialists, and technology professionals gives us a strong foundation to grow and continually improve our service as we enter our second year of operations.
I’d like to thank all of you for entrusting us with your equivalency determinations and for giving us the opportunity to make international grantmaking easier through our innovative, first-of-its-kind ED repository. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have feedback or suggestions.
